1. 1827 Capped Bust Quarters – Coin Value Worth $86,532 or more
- All 1827 Capped Bust Quarters are exceptionally rare and precious. Original strikes and Restrikes were the main types. This is the restrike variant.
- There were two sorts of restrikes: Period One (Class 2 / II) and Period Two (Class 3 / III). Not all experts agree that all restrikes were struck in the late 1850s and feature a die crack across the letter “U” in “UNITED” on the reverse. Few silver and copper restrikes exist.
- Rarely rusted Period One (Class II) coins were produced over bust quarters. Due to burst quarters and fine dies, some believe they were struck around the 1830s.
- Period Two (Class III) restrikes have rough surfaces on both sides due to corroded dies. Some analysts assume these coins were struck decades later in the 1850s since the dies took time to corrode compared to the smooth Period One (Class II) coins.
- The reverse of the “25 C.” coin shows the difference between the original and restrike. Original “25” “2” had a curled base. Instead, the restrike had a squared “2”. The curl base 2 vs. square base 2 coin comparison graphic shows the difference:

One major variety is the 1822 25/50C Capped Bust Quarter. This rare and valuable variety features the 25C denomination struck over a 50C denomination on the reverse of the coin.
